Dept of Specialised Art

The department includes the subject areas Photography, Printmaking, Ceramics and Textiles, as well as the part-time programme in Creative Curator Practice.

The department offers in-depth studies and expertise within its subjects-and the opportunity for students to build interdisciplinary competence. The link between individual work, theoretical insight and advanced knowledge of traditional and modern techniques is a strength within the subject areas, and an entryway for development at a high artistic level within a contemporary context.

The subject areas are not considered in isolation, but in a dynamic interplay with one another, with movements within contemporary art, and with the other departments at the academy.

Applications to the Bachelor's programme are submitted directly to the various subject areas at the departments. The Master's programme in Art is run in cooperation with the Department of Fine Art.

An academic staff with a broad range of experience and expertise, with professors and teachers who are themselves active on the contemporary art scene, is a prerequisite for having a vibrant teaching environment at the departments. The academic staffs' artistic development and research are a central priority.

BA in Specialised Art
The BA programme provides you with a basic understanding of the field of contemporary art and where you and your work connect with it. Helping you grow as an artist is a central objective of the programme, but you will also learn how to present, contextualise and think critically about your own and others' work. Rather than the individual specialities operating in isolation, they engage with each other - and with trends in contemporary art and with the other departments of the Academy - in a dynamic process. The programme gives you an opportunity to specialise in a chosen subject area, but you are also free to make use of what the other programmes at KHiB are offering as well.

MA in Fine Art
The new MA programme in Fine Art was organized in partnership with the Dept of Fine Art. It provides a foundation in artistic, methodological and theoretical knowledge, enabling you to work with art at an advanced level. You will become familiar during the MA programme with art-related problems and issues; you will acquire practical artistic skills and an understanding of different art-related research and development strategies.

Insofar as our teaching staff represent a wide variety of backgrounds and experience and our professors and teachers are themselves active in the contemporary art scene, the department can offer a highly dynamic learning environment.

The four subject areas at the Department are Photography, Printmaking, Ceramics and Textiles.
