Information for applicants to the Master's programme in Fine Art

Independent artistic work - The Master’s project – is the major component of the programme. Each student defines her/his own artistic project which is developed over the two-year period through personal study, experimentation, critique and discussion with tutors and fellow students.

Admission Process 2012

  • Application deadline: 1st February
  • Invitation for interviews: 17. February
  • Interviews: 19. - 23. March
  • Offer of a study place: 8. March

Admission Requirements
The Master in Fine Art builds on a Bachelor in Fine Art or other relevant education corresponding to 180 study credits.

Applicants are assessed on the basis of a written statement of motivation, submitted documentation of relevant artistic production (portfolio), and an interview.

Requirements for the Statment of Motivation
The statement should demonstrate:

  • Why you are applying to the MA at KHIB and what expectations you have for MA studies at KHiB
  • How you work artistically; what methods, media etc. you intend to use
  • Your critical reflections and thoughts around your artistic work to date
  • Which artistic themes or questions you propose to investigate during your MA studies
  • What context you relate your artistic practice to


Requirements for the Portfolio
Your portfolio should include documentation of relevant artistic production that demonstrate your academic qualifications for carrying out an independent MA project.

Language Requirements
In order to be able to participate in the MA programme, you must have a good understanding of a Scandinavian language  and/or English upon commencement of the studies. English and Norwegian will be used in seminars. Tutoring will be offered in English and Norwegian.
