Dept of Design
Dept of Design offers students BA and MA degrees in Visual Communication, and Furniture and Spatial Design/Interior Architecture. Dept of Design can take about 100 students. The department is led by a Dean who, together with the teaching staff, is responsible for the programmes and tuition at the department.
The department has a distinctive creative identity. Work is grounded in a philosophy of cross-disciplinarity, integrated thinking and conceptual development. Design assignments address practical issues and are rarely tied to a given material or mode of production. Activity at the department is therefore based on ways to identify and articulate problems, on analysing the different sides of a problem, elaborate ideas, solutions and integrated concepts and put ideas to work in a limited resource environment but aided by relevant and accessible technology and production systems.
BA studies at the Dept of Design
The BA in Design provides a basic and varied professional design competence aimed at solving complex design issues. Specialisation is offered in the areas of Furniture and Spatial Design/Interior Architecture and Visual Communication. The objectives of the programme range from technical mastery in various disciplines to the development of strategic skills and innovation in the field of design.
MA studies in Design
The MA programme in design offers practical, methodological as well as theoretical skills to work with design at an advanced level – functionally, aesthetically as well as ethically. Students are expected to contribute towards development of their profession through innovative methods – primarily by way of one major, independent and experimental project. Two specialities are available: Furniture and Spatial Design/Interior Architecture, and Visual Communication.
Degree show: MA Exhibition in Design 2008
This year's MA Exhitibion in Design, "Substans", showed a wide range of projects spanning from typography, furniture design, interiors, solutions for public spaces and digital animation. The exhibition was on from 18 April to 4 May 2008 at Permanenten Vestlandske Kunstindustrimuseum in the centre of Bergen.

Dette sier Torbjørn Andersen, produktdesigner i NORWAY SAYS. "Jeg lærte av alt, til og med det helt håpløse", sier Magnus Voll Mathiassen, grafisk designer i GRANDPEOPLE. "Jeg lærte å underbygge og å gjennomføre fra teori til praksis", sier Grete Skogmo, interiørarkitekt i FORUM ARKITEKTER.

Design Region Bergen åpnet
Design Region Bergen er en nettverksorganisasjon for designdrevet nærings- og samfunnsutvikling i regionen. Det har kommet til som et resultat av et initiativ fra Kunsthøgskolen i Bergen og Bergen Kommune med god hjelp av Innovasjon Norge. Onsdag kveld ble satsningen offisielt åpnet av byråd Henning Warloe. I salen var over 200 bransjefolk samlet for å høre mer om planene og treffe den nyvalgte daglige leder.
- Vi skal back'e dere opp, lovet Warloe før han avduket den nye grafiske profilen.

Chromascope: dataprogram til bruk i fargeundervisningen
April 2005: Pensjonert professor i farge, Grete Smedal, og designer, billedkunstner og datakyndige Sven Jacobsen har utviklet et nytt dataprogram som kan revolusjonere undervisningen om farge. Undervisningsopplegget Chromascope er basert på det kjente Natural Colour System (NCS) og gjør det mulig å bruke NCS også på datamaskinen.
-Nå er ikke datamaskinen lenger en trussel for fargelære, tvert imot, uttaler Smedal og Jacobsen.
