Bergen National Academy of the Arts (KHiB) is one of the two independent institutions of higher learning in the visual arts and design in Norway. Read more about our objectives and formal structure.
Completing a university degree is often considered to be an expensive endeavour and tuition fees are usually making up the bulk part of the cost. Norwegian universities, state university colleges and art academies as a rule do not charge tuition fees for international students. However, you should take into consideration that living expenses in Norway are higher than in many other countries.
Study in Norway
Bergen National Academy of the Arts is situated in five different buildings at two separate locations in the city centre. The Dept of Fine Arts is at Nordnes, in C. Sundts gate 53 and 55, approximately a 10 minute walk from Torgallmenningen (the city’s main square). The Dept of Design and the Dept of Specialised Art are situated in Marken. The study administration and other administrative staff and services can be found in Strømgaten 1 across from the railway station.

Art education has long traditions in Bergen, as the first school of art was established here in 1772. The present Academy, Bergen National Academy of the Arts, is a new institution merging two former institutions into one in 1996.
