Since its early stages in the late sixties and early seventies, video art has been completely transformed. From critical responses to television as a mass medium and corporate control, through to its shift from analogue to digital, and the emergence of personal media, video has come to pervade every aspect of our global environment. Current estimates by the technological industry indicate there are now over 150 million digital camcorders worldwide. In addition, the use of online video is rapidly developing into a significant and important medium and archive as part of the different network cultures today.
The medium's elasticity and current hybridity mix into other multi-media art forms, making video one of the essential artistic tools. The diversity in approaches to working with video range from narrative and cinematic, performative and generative, to installation and object-based works. Through lectures and workshops the subject of videois explored by looking at the different approaches towards the use of moving images, filtered through the world of vernacular video, and our society today.
In addition, hands-on practical and technical workshops in cinematography, video editing, post production, and various video-processing techniques are offered. Guest teachers and visiting artists are also a regular part of various workshops during the year.
